A thousand paintings in one

I have been so busy and happily painting recently, that I have neglected my blog.

I have been thinking for some time now, of writing about how each one of my silks contains an endless number of paintings within !

I do 99% of my silks free hand. I start with the white silk and just “go for it”. Once in a while, very rarely, I will trace one of MY own sketches, but I always trace one part, for example, and then do the rest free hand.

Anyway, I realized that while drawing with the resist and later adding the dyes and special materials for effects, I see each leaf, each petal, as a painting in itself. I am a perfectionist and take great pride in doing my best, all the while having fun and feeling passion for it.

Though I see the entire silk as one painting and how each leaf compliments the others, I care for each leaf and its finished appearance as its own work of art. As in this large silk, there are young leaves, old leaves, dried and withered leaves, bug nibbles and holes, weather spots and strange freckles.

I tend to have my favorite leaves and petals, but each has its own personality and has been created to be individual and one of a kind…. as all my silks are. So, I guess you could say that when you have one of my paintings, you actually have dozens, hundreds or thousands! So everyone is a collector !!

The best part is when you say “when you have one of my paintings, you actually have dozens, hundreds or thousands!” ~ that is just the perfect image!!!
    Love it ♥

  2. The depth in your leaves is absolutely breathtaking Wendy! I’m going to be spreading the word around San Francisco. Have you considered opening a virtual market with Etsy.com?
